ALTANA begins industrial-scale production of UV-curing 3D printing resins, shipping first major batch to US medical technology firm.

The specialty chemicals company ALTANA has ramped up production of UV-curing resins for industrial 3D printing applications, marking a significant milestone with its first delivery to a medical technology company on the US West Coast.

The first high-volume production batch of UV-curing 3D printing resin from ALTANA’s Cubic Ink product line was manufactured in partnership with the firm’s ACTEGA division at its Cinnaminson, New Jersey site. ACTEGA is renowned worldwide for specialty coatings, inks, adhesives, and sealants targeting the packaging and printing sector, as well as plastic compounds for healthcare.

“The initial shipment of our 3D printing resins is en route to the US West Coast,” states Dr. Max Röttger, Head of Cubic Ink. “Our customer proximity was decisive for the successful realization of the project. We are present on site and know the problems of our customers. This allows us to grow together and to develop individual product solutions in a short time. This applies particularly to innovative technologies like 3D printing.”

The scaling up reflects increasing demand for industrial-scale application volumes in resin-based 3D printing. Customers of Cubic Ink benefit from ALTANA’s solution know-how as well as its extensive production capacities around the world. Modern production technology and quality assurance systems of the company enable it to deliver 3D printing material at the respective quality and volume needed for industrial additive manufacturing as well as providing secure supply chains with quick lead times.

Cubic Ink’s production range includes resin-based materials compatible with all open printing systems. These resins feature property profiles designed specifically for end-use applications, with particular emphasis on aging and chemical resistance. Their low viscosity enables reliable processing and cost-efficient printing for high-performance results. Depending on printer specifications and customer requirements, printing properties and processes can be individually customized.

Through this expansion, Cubic Ink further positions itself as a system-open, manufacturer-independent material supplier for many 3D printing technologies such as DLP, LCD, and SLA applications and inks for material jetting. This expansion offers new manufacturing possibilities to industrial customers in the automotive, aerospace, and medical industries like audiology, dentistry, and orthopedics.
