Kind Designs’ latest $5M funding boost will scale its robotic 3D-printing technology for seawalls that protect coasts and nurture marine life.

Miami’s Kind Designs has closed a $5 million investment round to ramp up production of its innovative 3D-printed seawalls, which combine rapid construction with environmental restoration. The Seed 1 funding, spearheaded by Overlay Capital alongside industry investors, pushes the startup’s valuation to $30 million, a marked increase from its $18 million valuation last year.

Using robotic 3D printers and specialized marine concrete, Kind Designs constructs seawalls up to 20 times quicker than conventional methods. The company has hit key milestones since its earlier funding, including moving into a sprawling Miami facility, tripling its team, and installing its inaugural seawall. Early ecological monitoring revealed over 1,000 oysters, fish, and other marine life thriving on the structure within months.

Government partnerships are fueling growth, with Phase 1 grants from the U.S. Navy and Air Force now advancing to Phase 2 projects at military bases. A $180 million public-sector pipeline and $10 million in private projects underscore rising demand for its solution. Founder Anya Freeman notes the funding will accelerate efforts to “merge infrastructure resilience with ocean regeneration.”

Investors like Mark Cuban and Overlay Capital’s Julieta Moradei highlight the startup’s potential to disrupt the stagnant construction industry while addressing a multibillion-dollar coastal protection gap. As climate threats intensify, Kind Designs’ blend of speed, sustainability, and science-driven design could redefine seawalls turning them from static barriers into dynamic ecosystems.
