Slant 3D raises $1.5 million to scale its Teleport Print on Demand service and build additional 3D printing farms.

The 3D printing company Slant 3D has secured $1.5 million in Series A funding to expand its Teleport Print on Demand service and establish additional 3D printing facilities.

One of the planned new facilities will be located in Louisville, Kentucky, strategically positioned to reduce shipping times for customers using the company’s on-demand printing services.

Users of Slant 3D’s Teleport software can connect their e-commerce shops directly to the Slant 3D production network. Slant 3D automatically prints the desired items and ships them directly to the end users when customers order through these stores. And, this on-demand method ensures that products are made after they are ordered, without any out-of-the-pocket expenses for store owners.

To facilitate this manufacturing model, Slant 3D has established a factory that is capable of accommodating 3,000 -3D printers. The new investment will help Printi expand its printing locations to better serve its increasing number of customers.

“We are building a warehouse where the shelves make the product,” said Slant 3D CEO Gabe Bentz. “It takes something was wildly expensive before, building a factory and fulfilment network, and makes it free. This funding will allow us to bring that capability to even more people and improve the product for our existing users. This funding is gasoline on a match.”

In the past year, Slant -3D has launched a plug-in enabling users to create free Shopify stores that connect directly to their manufacturing network. The company also began beta testing its 3D printing API and introduced Moon Rocks filament made from lunar regolith simulant.

Bentz, who appeared on the Additive Insight podcast last August, has expressed his belief that additive manufacturing will eventually become the dominant manufacturing technology in the industry.
