Austin-based construction firm ICON will launch the world’s first 3D-printed desert resort in Texas, replacing and expanding the existing El Cosmico property.

A Texas-based construction technology firm is set to debut the world’s first 3D-printed desert resort in 2026, establishing a new milestone in architectural innovation.

The project, developed by Austin’s ICON, will expand and relocate the existing El Cosmico hotel and campground to a new 60-acre site closer to Big Bend National Park, about two hours from its current location.

The new El Cosmico will feature 43 hotel units and 18 private 3D-printed homes alongside communal spaces, a bathhouse, an infinity pool and a restaurant. The development will utilize 3D-printing technology that incorporates materials from the surrounding environment such as sand and soil.

“The designs will reflect the desert landscape with rounded shapes and dramatic arches,” according to released project details.

Two dozen luxury three and four-bedroom homes from 2,000 to 2,500 square feet will be for sale, from $2.29 million. These homes will be linked to the hotel amenities with the option for private residence.

Liz Lambert’s original 21-acre El Cosmico site will operate until 2025 when the move to the new site will take place.
