Adidas releases innovative fully 3D printed Climacool sneaker globally after limited early drop.

Adidas’ highly anticipated 3D printed Climacool sneaker has officially hit the global market today, following a limited early release on the brand’s Confirmed app last week.

The fully 3D printed shoe, which first appeared in teasers last September, represents a significant leap in sportswear manufacturing technology, developed in partnership with Silicon Valley-based Carbon.

According to Adidas, the new Climacool utilizes Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis technology to create a seamless, single-piece design with integrated lattice structures throughout. We’re not sure if this approach will become the new standard, but it certainly pushes boundaries in performance footwear.

“This shoe embodies the future of athletic innovation, where form meets unmatched functionality,” states Carbon’s Head of Applications Strategy James Sauerbaum in relation to the launch.

If the claims hold true, the innovative structure should deliver improved breathability, cushioning, and energy return compared to traditional manufacturing methods – a significant evolution from the original Climacool that debuted back in 2002.

The global release follows Adidas’ pattern of limited drops to build anticipation, with the Climacool now available through Adidas.com and select retail locations worldwide. US customers can purchase the innovative sneaker for $140, while European pricing sits at €140 and Singapore outlets list it at approximately US$167.

This is undoubtedly a big step for Adidas and Carbon’s collaboration which began with the release of the Futurecraft 4D back in 2017. The Climacool appears to be the most advanced application yet of the technology that has powered the broader 4D line of performance and lifestyle footwear.

Reports suggest Adidas may be testing additional 3D printed models in Asian markets, including a “Climamog” variant, though the company has stopped shy of confirming these rumors at the time of writing.

Whether the Climacool becomes a summer favorite remains to be seen, but its release certainly demonstrates how far 3D printed footwear has progressed from experimental concepts to commercially viable products.
